The highest point in western Europe, Mont Blanc (4,807 metres above sea-level) is situated in the Alps on the border between France and Italy. Metropolitan France has extensive river systems including the Loire, the Garonne, the Seine and the Rhône. Cutting between the Massif Central and the Alps, the Rhône flows into the Mediterranean sea from the Camargue, part of which is 2m below mean sea level).
